AVEVA™ Data Hub asset context

Posted: July 21, 2021

AVEVA™ Data Hub Assets has arrived. Here’s what’s new.

The latest release of AVEVA™ Data Hub, the cloud-native SaaS complement to AVEVA™ PI System™, simplifies remote asset monitoring.

The ability to manage operations remotely has long been a vital component for businesses. Remote operations monitoring (ROM) has been executed through the on-premises components of AVEVA PI System for years. However, as technology rapidly changes, health and safety challenges evolve, and sustainability targets are pushed to the forefront, companies are increasingly looking for ways to meet these needs in an efficient manner. AVEVA Data Hub, a cloud-native application built on Microsoft Azure, provides a solution for customers eager to capitalize on these use cases and more.

Assets in AVEVA Data Hub gives users the ability to add additional context to their AVEVA PI System data. This allows them to build a holistic view of their operations, ultimately allowing them to do more with their data and make better decisions.

The feature set includes Asset Explorer, Asset Trending, and Asset Data Views (described more below), as well as Asset Rule Builder.

Grouping multiple data streams into assets

Data streams provide users with critical real-time data from their assets. The problem is that these streams are often composed from a random string of characters that rarely hold meaning to anyone other than the few engineers tasked with monitoring them. The key is to make this information understandable to a wider group of people and teams in order to get the most value and insight from it. But how can they easily find the data they need?

With the AVEVA release that includes the feature set, data streams can now be identified according to their corresponding assets. Users can find the information they need by searching familiar asset names, rather than searching for unique data stream names. Gone are the days of remembering long arbitrary names, allowing you to quickly find the information you need to solve issues and share with the right teams.

Asset explorer

Whether there are ten assets or ten thousand, finding the required data should be simple. Asset Explorer is a powerful tool that provides intuitive search and filter options to find the information that matters to you. Monitor fleets of assets across multiple locations faster and more intuitively than ever.

The improved asset search allows free-text entry enabling you to search using asset names, asset properties which show stream values such as a temperature, as well as metadata associated with the data such as model, manufacturer, and serial number. Use a range of filtering options such as location, asset status and metadata values to narrow down results and locate the data you want with pinpoint accuracy. View asset data in real-time through the asset details screen/pane and identify the current health of assets using the status filter to quickly report or resolve issues. Use quick or custom ranges to view your asset performance over a specified time range.

A quick example will illustrate how this works. Recently, your wind farm - Big Buffalo - has been underperforming. Energy production demands are not being met. If you can figure out which wind turbine is failing, you can alert the correct team and rectify the issue before it escalates. Use the asset status filter to quickly visualize all wind turbines which have a ‘Bad’ or ‘Warning’ status. This lets you focus your attention on the right assets, eliminate wasted time and take the best corrective action.

Asset trending

Seeing a value gives us important information, however visualizing values over time gives a new perspective and provides context. Asset trending allows users to visualize values from their assets in a trendline. Bring in values with a few clicks, find correlation between them and decide on the next steps.

For in-depth troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, seamlessly transition to full trend view mode which now fully supports assets including the asset-swap functionality, which allows you compare similar assets with a single click. Choose what scale to view it on and effortlessly move between different assets for quick performance comparison.

Asset types

Creating assets one-by-one quickly becomes tedious. Asset Types acts as a template for similar assets to ensure consistency and save time during creation. Map metadata values and configure the status for all assets associated with a particular asset type.

Asset data views

Now that your operations data is in AVEVA Data Hub, the journey doesn’t have to stop here. AVEVA Data Hub provides a simple way to automatically deliver your datasets reliably and securely into data science tools. Send fully contextualized data and asset-structured data views to make it faster and easier for analysts and data scientists to use operations data.

Whether assessing air quality, connecting remote teams, or improving safety, customers are doing more with AVEVA Data Hub.
